Arrive at Bali

Picked up from the airport by a young man named Batu from our hotel (Green Field) in Ubud.  Batu is a nice fellow a we chat with all of the way from Denpasar to the hotel.  He's Balanese and grew up in the northern part of Bali, well off the tourist trail.  He has two younger sisters; one works in a supermarket in Koota and the other is still at school and living with family.  He seemed family oriented, frequently riding his motorbike the 80km home to visit (and very fast he tells us). Batu said that is a great honor for him to work at the hotel because it is one of the better ones to work at (they treat their staff well), other staff are freindly, it is a very nice hotel.  He also likes to work hard to make guests stay pleasant.  He said that all of this helps to the owners have a good and profitable business which they are all aware of.

All up, the drive from the airport to Ubud took about 70 minutes.  Even though its well past peak traffic there are a lot of vehicles on the road, mostly motorbikes.  Everyone drives/rides so close together, weaving in and out of lanes without indicating, they're all used to it of course.

We arrive at hotel Green Field in Ubud at about 8pm.  The hotel is built along Balanese lines especially the lobby which has no external walls except for around the reception desk and behind the desk.  The lobby looks quite beautiful under lights with it's traditional looking furnishings and lovely gardens which includes a large fish pond.
